Mary Poppins says, "Well begun is half done."
If a rocket-to-the-moon's aim is 1/2 inch off at the start, it misses its mark by about 8000 miles.
So I know it's a good thing to pay attention to how I start my blogging.
Laura mentioned blogs in August. I picked up a business magazine while on vacation that was all over the "blogging phenomena" with an edge to the ad revenues that a few of them are bringing their creators. The Wizard of Ads was yakking about blogs a couple of years ago in his Monday Morning Memo. Now I am writing my first "post".
As John Prine sings, "That's the way the world goes 'round". We hear about something for a while, it resonates with us, and then we jump in. John Prine goes on to say, "it's a half an inch of water and we think we're gonna drown", and that's also a good thing to know about how our minds work.
Kat and I are going to hear John Prine on October 28th in Santa Barbara. He puts on an amazing show. I've seen him twice before. Kat has seen him countless times over the past 30 years. Kat introduced me to him 5 years ago and it dramatically changed my life. You never know what seemingly unimportant events are going to shake your world to the core.
October 28th is my brother Gary's 60th birthday. I remember being about 9 years old standing on the sidewalk outside our house in San Francisco and hearing about a boy who was 16 years old and thinking, "That is OLD. I can't imagine being 16 years old." It seemed as likely as my walking on the moon. Now Gary is gonna be 60, which means I am 18 months away from being 60 myself, not 16... 60. Time is a funny thing we humans created.
So, today is October 10th, 2006 and I am writing my first blog post. Here is the place I intend to allow my words, thoughts, ideas, images and energy to be expressed in service of the ineffible mystery and power of relationship.
The name of this blog is The Relationship Coaching Company. That is the name of Kat's and my business. Kat and I are married. We have a blended family of 4 remarkable kids. Three are adults and one is 14. We live in Ventura, California. Life is good, even when it's like standing in a fire, it's a good thing to be alive. I've learned that much in 58 and 1/2 years of living.
My mom is 90, so I plan to be living a good bit longer.
Our business has a couple of tag lines: Kat's is "I turn work into play." and mine is "Trouble is my business." She has the fun and I have the trouble. It works for us. We teach people tools and knowledge that they can use to be better together at home and at work. We know it works because we use what we teach every day. I've been divorced more than once, so I sure know what doesn't work.
What I say is, "We never know what is going to happen next. Not ever. What we do know is that we are in this together." May as well learn how to play well with others... the time we spend together is a lot sweeter.
Well, that's it for now.
Cheers...
